It’s been a rollercoaster week of fun in Reception this week! The children are continuing to enjoy our Dinosaur topic and this week we have been learning about fossils and how these have been key to scientists and palaeontologists learning about the lives of dinosaurs all those millions of years ago. We have drawn ammonite fossils and used plaster of Paris to create our own replica fossils of shells.
Phonics work was great fun this week, as the children loved retelling a favourite story – ‘Supertato’. With costumes and props the children acted out the story as a way of showing understanding of the story and using newly learned vocabulary. The children have also been enjoying their new writing folders and using all of their phonics knowledge to publish some beautiful work.
Maths work this week has continued our investigations of division and sharing equally. This has been extended this week to include consideration of odd and even numbers and how each type of number can (or can’t) be shared in equal groups.
Wednesday’s Sport’s Day was a resounding success! Thank you to all the family members who were able to make it along to support the children so brilliantly. We were so proud of the effort and resilience of the children as they competed in the various races and games.
Friday was a bittersweet day where we said goodbye to the fabulous Miss Delph. She will be missed and we wish her all the best as she starts off in her new school with her very own class in September!
Thank you so much for all of the generous contributions to this weekend’s Summer Fair. We are looking forward to seeing as many people as possible for a fantastic day with lots of fun stalls and games planned.
