Year 3 – Fire Lays – Forest School

Linking in with our current topic on ‘Stone Age,’ children in Year 3 began learning about fire lays this afternoon. After discussing the uses and dangers of fire and why and how our ancient ancestors used and harnessed it, children were introduced to the ‘fire triangle’ and different types of fuel needed for successful fires. Next, children learnt about the properties, features and names for different fire lays. They studied each in turn and discussed about the positives and disadvantages of certain ones. Finally, they had a go at trying to make some thinking about everything they had learnt this afternoon. Well done on a great first session in fire making Year 3!
