EYFS – Forest Schools – 26.09.2024

Today was Reception’s second Forest School session and we took our inspiration from this past weekend’s Autumnal Equinox. After a classroom discussion on what the children already knew about Autumn, we went outside and groups took turns to explore the garden and field for signs of Autumn’s arrival. The children gathered leaves of orange, brown, yellow and red; we found acorns beneath the oak tree and pine cones beneath the first; and we found berries in the bushes. The children loved getting into nature and seeing how the seasons are changing at the moment. We brought back a big bag of our findings to inspect further in the classroom.

After lunch, the children enjoyed looking at the leaves we had gathered and using them to make some lovely autumnal artworks. We placed leaves below paper and rubbed with wax crayons to reproduce the leaf print in beautiful autumn colours and we painted leaves with shades of orange, red, yellow and brown and printed them onto paper. We think you’ll agree there was some fantastic results!

The rest of our time on Forest Schools day was spent enjoying the equipment and resources in the school garden and visiting with out goats and chickens. At the end of the day, as the rain poured outside, all the children joined in an audio adventure themed around autumn as they acted out a story of looking for a missing tortoise! All in all, we had a great day!
