EYFS – Newsletter – 18.10.24
Friday again, and we’ve had a full and fun-packed week in Reception. As part of our ‘All About Me’ topic we have considered what it means to be individual. We’ve discussed how people’s interests, likes and dislikes are personal to them and we don’t have to like things to fit in with others. The children have enjoyed sharing their likes and dislikes with us and learning more about each other in the process. We’ve also seen children express their individuality by designing their own t-shirt in using their favourite colours, and sharing the different ways we travel to school.
The children have really been impressing us in Phonics sessions this week as they gain in confidence in using the sounds we have learned so far. This time we have spent revisiting the previously learned sounds really gives the children chance to embed their understanding and become more capable to apply it in their reading and writing as we move forward to learn new sounds.
In Maths, we have begun exploring numbers for the first time and to begin with we have concentrated on the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We spend time really exploring the concept of these first numbers to give the children a sure sense of what they mean to represent an amount or a group of objects and also how these numbers relate to one another. All week, the children have engaged in activities to recognise and represent these numbers in different ways.
On Tuesday, the children worked with Mrs Arnott to discuss the benefits of a healthy diet and all discussed what foods they would choose to make a healthy meal.
We’ve continued to welcome children into our DT area in Reception, to further practise safe use of the tools. Everybody has now been able to use the saws and hammers appropriately and we have begun to introduce use of a hot-glue gun as a means to join pieces together.
At the end of the week the children got involved with the playground maintenance! They were keen to help cut the long grass in our “reception meadow” to encourage the seeds planted last year to take hold, and also begin the never ending job of sweeping up and collecting the Autumn leaves!
Our apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the last-minute cancellation of the Phonics Workshop yesterday. The new date for this is Wednesday 13th November. The form to let us know you are attending the new date can be found here or on the EYFS class page.
Have a great weekend!
