EYFS – Forest School

Today we enjoyed a sunny Forest Schools morning in school garden. Inspired by the John Hegley picture book ‘ Stanley’s Stick,’ we asked the children to hunt for a special stick and think of what else it could be other than just a stick.  We had some fantastic ideas from from the children, such as using the stick as a musical instrument; as a unicorn’s horn or a light-sabre! As Halloween is fast-approaching and we have enjoyed reading Julia Donaldson’s ‘Room on the Broom’ together, we decided to have a go at turning a stick into a magic wand! After finding their own special stick in the garden, the children picked out some colourful ribbons to tie onto the end and help spread their magic around as they got busy casting spells here there and everywhere! It was wonderful to see such imaginative play amongst the children, as they happily transformed each other (and the grown-ups too!) into cats, bats and frogs.

Aside from these activities, the children relished the opportunity to explore the garden and enjoy the various apparatus, and to use the mud-kitchen to mix up some magic spells too!
