Year 3 – Whittling Knives – Forest School

Today in Forest School, pupils in Year 3 began learning about whittling knives. The session began with observing and participating in a tool safety talk and demonstration. Children then had to replicate the safety procedures before being allowed to use a whittling knife on their own. Working with a partner who was a safety checker, pupils independently used whittling knives safely and correctly, following the tool safety procedures to the letter. After a while, pupils swapped roles with their partner to ensure they remained safe whilst whittling sticks. Next week, these skills will be used to make Iron Age bows and arrows in our Forest School session.
