Christmas fever continues in Reception! This week the children have enjoyed making their own baubles and paper chains to add to the class tree, as well as using pom-poms to create a sting of lights in various patterns. Alongside all of this has been lots of singing practise in preparation for next week’s Christmas Celebration in Reception at 2:30pm on Thursday 19th. We hope you can make it!
Phonics sessions have focused again on tricky words and introducing the phoneme ‘ss’ (as in kiss) and ‘s’ (as in pigs). The children are becoming more familiar with the ideas of these digraph phonemes and how they appear at the end or in the middle of words. This is helping them to become more thoughtful as they learn to spell new words.
Our Maths sessions this week have focused on the number zero. The children have investigated the meaning of zero and how it relates to the rest of the number system with a series of fun and engaging activities.
Also this week the children have been asked to consider all the foods that we traditionally consume in the Christmas period and how there are always choices to be made and how we should attempt to eat a healthy diet. The children enjoyed sorting through different foods to decide upon a balanced meal – with everyone agreeing that the key word for Christmas consumption should be ‘moderation‘!
Have a great weekend!
