KS1 – Newletter – 18/10/19
This week we have held our parent consultations and it was great to be able to meet with so many parents to celebrate the work your children have been doing over the last half term.
In English, we have continued to use the story ‘Zog’ as our inspiration. We have been writing stories and writing about what might happen next to Zog. Year 1 have been looking at various phonic sounds and categorising them correctly. Year 2 have been focusing on incorrect spelling patterns and working out which they should have used instead.
In Maths, Year 1 have continued to compare numbers using < > = signs and have been placing missing numbers onto a number square. Year 2 have been consolidating their knowledge of number bonds to 10 and 20 using bar models and whole/ part models.
In PHSE we have been finishing our unit on Healthy Living. Year 1 were thinking about how to stay safe in the sun and to be aware of the suns affects on our body. Year 2 were learning about how germs can enter their body and what happens when they do. They then looked at strategies to ensure germs are not passed on.
For RE both Year groups have been looking at the morals from stories. Year 1 read the story of The Crying Camel and Year 2 read stories from Christian, Islamic and secular backgrounds and thought about the meaning behind each story.
In Science Class 3 have been seeing who can make the biggest bubble and Class 4 have been checking on how their experiment is going. They have wrapped apples up in a variety of materials and they are waiting to see which material preserves the apple the best.
It was Class 2’s turn to visit Golden Acre Park today and had a fabulous morning exploring nature and feeding the ducks together.
