KS2 – Golden Ticket trip to Leeds Art Gallery

Some children from KS2 were selected to attend the Golden Ticket trip to Leeds Art Gallery.

First, we sat as a group and created our own Art Gallery rules and discussed why these were important. After this, we explored the Curtis Holder, Portrait Conversations, exhibition. We recognised pieces of artwork as we used them as our inspiration to recreate for the Challenge of Champions competition in school! We were then art detectives and engaged in deep discussions about the artwork in the gallery and voted for the artwork that we would like Leeds Art Gallery to purchase.
We then completed our own art pieces using various challenges:

  1. We sketched ourselves
  2. We sketched our partner using our less dominant hand
  3. We sketched our partner whilst maintaining eye contact throughout
  4. We sketched our partner using our less dominant hand, maintaining eye contact, and asking them questions about themselves!

We then compared all the wonderful pieces of art that we had created and discussed the fact that art does not need to be perfect but convey meaning, feelings and our own personalities.
