EYFS Newsletter – 18.10.19
What a week we’ve had in Reception! The children have been fantastic at keeping going as some changes of routine were thrown into the mix. We have had Flavour Schools sessions, individual photos and the school nurses on top of the usual fun, and the children have shown great maturity and adaptability.
Flavour Schools is a new endeavor run in conjunction with York University to encourage children engage with their food using their five senses, as well as encouraging children to try new foods and to be more adventurous in their choices. This week all the children had a ‘taster’ session with staff from the university and we shall be running weekly sessions in small groups throughout the year, beginning after half term.
In Phonics this week we have been exploring the letter sounds ‘p’ and ‘i’. Children have been hunting down the letters in our books and finding objects that begin with these sounds, as well as trying really hard to write them neatly.
Maths has seen us introducing the Numberblocks as a stimulus to engage the children in number work. So far this has been super popular and encouraged some fantastic discussion.
Our outdoor areas have proven very popular as always, whatever the weather (and we’ve had equal amounts of sunshine and rain this week!). Children have loved tackling our obstacle courses, as well as building their own using the different equipment. Forest schools this week saw children on a hunt for various objects in the natural environment and sorting them by their properties.
Thank you to all parents who have signed up for parent consultation appointments for next Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you and sharing how fantastically your children have begun their school lives!
