EYFS – Forest School

What a fantastic session of Forest School we had this morning. A little like the weather which was sunny and hot one minute then cold and cloudy the next, we had a split session with half of the morning spent in the Forest School garden area and the other half in the wooded area. In the garden, children linked their current topic of ‘Let It Grow’ to helping Mr Gamble and Mr Verdi weed the vegetable beds and earth up the potatoes which EYFS planted before Easter. We talked about the need for space for plants to grow and how weeds compete for light, water and nutrients in the soil. Children could also choose to spend time in the sand pit, playing on the tree house, have fun on the swings and get dirty and wet in the mud kitchen and painting with mud. In the wooded area, children made dens, climbed trees, crafted daisy chains and created their own games to play in a natural setting – what a busy morning and no wonder all the children and staff were so tired by lunchtime!
