EYFS – Newsletter – 25.04.25
Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great Easter break – it has been lovely to see all the children back and ready for a new term. Our new topic is ‘Let It Grow!’ and we’ve dived straight into it with a week of beans! We read Jack and the Beanstalk at the start of the week and the children have enjoyed acting out the story themselves using various props. Many chose to paint their own beanstalks with potato-print leaves, while some took the maths challenge of reading two-digit numbers and counting out the matching number of leaves to stick on a beanstalk.
And of course, we had to plant our own beans too! Unsure if we had magic or regular beans, we first learned all about how plants grow from seed and what plants need to grow healthily before each planting our own beans in a pot. We then found a good place with plenty of light (but still indoors for now) and gave the beans some water. The children then completed the first entry in their own bean diary to record what had happened so far. With the children entrusted to check on their own bean, we will hopefully see some action over the coming week and will report back!
Spring has well and truly sprung and officially we’ve now started the Summer Term, so quite rightly the sun has had his hat on this week! As ever, when the weather is good the children love spending time in our outdoor areas – sand, water, mud… all good!
Phonics sessions this week have seen us revisiting the long vowel sounds ‘ai’ ‘ee’ ‘igh’ and ‘oa’. The children have practised reading and writing words and sentences with these sounds.
In Maths this week, we have been looking at the concept of subtraction. The children have been investigating this concept practically by ‘taking away’ and counting back on number-lines as well as building towers.
Have a lovely weekend!
