KS1 – Newsletter – 25.4.25

Welcome back! We hope that you have all had a fabulous Easter break and lots of chocolate to boot!

In English we will all be writing a non-chronological report. They have begun looking at leaflets about Bridlington and the surrounding area. They have all been practising adding suffixes to the ends of words and thinking about how the suffix changes the word, for example changing a noun to a verb eg garden to gardening or change it to the past tense play – played. In phonics Year One have been adding -er and -est onto words and thinking about how that changes the word. Year Two have been using contractions in their phonics lessons.

In Maths, Year One have begun to count in twos. They have been looking at the patterns in numbers as they count the even numbers and have also been counting groups of twos and ordering numbers in twos. In Year Two, one group have been recapping the processes for multiplication and division. The other group have been introduced to division, doubling and halving and understanding the concept of sharing.

This half term we will begin looking at a new topic of the seaside. In history, we began looking at who might travel on the seas off the coast and discussed the facts that pirates used to inhabit the seas. We began looking at some famous pirates and putting some facts about them into chronological order.

In Design technology, the children put the finishing touches to fire engines. They then began to design a puppet that they will be making in textiles.

The children were recapping some singing games in music. They looked at basic notations and created their own musical patterns.

In art, the children were all given a coloured square. They were asked to use their imagination to create something from it, using a variety of drawing materials, based from things they may have experienced over the last couple of weeks.

In RE in Year One, the children have begun to think about how we should treat people. To begin this topic, we read two different stories (non-religious) and thought about how the characters treated each other and reflected on how we ourselves like to be treated and why. In Year Two, they began a topic on rules. Again, starting with a non-religious perspective and why we have rules and whether the children thought in principal that rules were important and why.

We have been completing our Mindmate lessons in PSHE this week. Year One were using the Elmer book to look at being the same and being different. We thought about the different ways that we are the same to other people in our class and the ways we are different. In Year Two, they were thinking about how we all have different emotional responses to different situations eg starting something new, going on stage, moving house etc.. They discussed how it’s Ok for one person to feel excited and another to feel nervous etc…

We have ended the week with our fabulous alternative PE. This week we have been doing Boccia, table hockey and bench ball.

Any one interested in fashion? We have been asked to advertise the upcoming fashion show at Cookridge Village Hall. Have a look at the leaflet below.
