KS1 – Newsletter – 15/11/19
It’s been all about castles, battles and weapons this week in Key Stage 1.
We had a fantastic day on Wednesday creating trebuchet’s, working out who could fire their missile’s the furthest. We created castles out of lego, duplo, wooden blocks and other resources, such as carboard boxes. We got creative making shields and helmets, which we wore for our battle in the afternoon! We played storm the castle on the playground, with two groups defending and two group attacking, trying to win golden coins for their team point groups.
In art, we used block printing to create castle walls.
We used all this experience, along with videos to write stories about the invasion and a letter to another King, asking him to come to help as we were under seige.
Maths, has been a continuation of Year 1 learning number bonds and representing them using a variety of resources and Year 2 adding two digit numbers using base ten and written methods.
In History, we learnt the significance of Remembrance day, when it began and how we celebrate it today.
In computing, we were focusing on algorithms. We are learning how important it is to give specific instructions to make the right thing happen. In order to do this, we were writing algorithms for making jam sandwiches and realising how we can end up spreading a butter tub instead of the butter onto the bread if we have not included all the appropriate steps!
