LKS2 – Newsletter – 22/11/19

We’ve had another fabulous week of learning and fun in LKS2!

On Monday, we had a cold but fantastic Forest Schools. We learnt how to use a range of tools such as whittling knives and bow saws, and then used them to create sculptures. Groups also worked together to build and light a fire. Then we enjoyed a well-deserved cup of hot chocolate and freshly cooked popcorn!

We have recently been learning about The Learning Challenge: a range of learning techniques that challenge our understanding and encourage depth of thought in our learning. Class 5 did a ‘choose the odd one out’ activity where each child had to persuade us which object was the odd one out. Then, we had a lively debate about whether or not Bonfire Night should be banned!

In English this week, we have continued to read the Animals of Farthing Wood. We have written some excellent diary entries from Fox’s point of view, using all the pronouns that we have learned about recently. Today, we worked on our meaning breakdown and our prediction skills.

Class 5 and Class 7 have also been learning about the inverse this week. We have practised using the inverse to help us check our answers, and also to find missing numbers in calculations. We have used a lot of different methods, and some of us tried using numicon to help us find the answer to missing number problems!

Overall a fantastic week – well done all!
