KS1 – Newsletter – 10.1.20
Happy new Year to you all from the Key Stage one team. We hope that you have all had a good break.
We were straight back in with a PPA day, enjoying the first rotation of Art, PE and Music.
We have begun our Space theme and year one began their English by having a rocket take off on the play ground. They all worked together and were developing good oracy skills. Year 2 were also working on oracy skills when they went to investigate a ‘spaceship’ crash site in the garden. They created aliens out of plasticine and wrote about the creature they have created. Great fun has been had exploring our new space themed role play areas.
In Maths, Year 1 have been focusing on Number bonds to 20 and Year 2 have been consolidating their understanding of addition and subtraction within word problems. They have been using the inverse operation to solve missing number problems.
In Geography we have begun to work on our perception skills. We have been looking at photographs from a standing position and from an aerial position. We matched photographs of places we are familiar with such as school, Elland road and golden acre and those we are not familiar with, such as The Giant’s Causeway.
It was very exciting to have Leeds Rhinos in to begin our course on Rugby. Year 1 will be having their training every Wednesday throughout this half term and Year 2 will be training on Thursdays. Please ensure your child’d PE kit is in school for these extra days, Thank you.
In Science we have begun our topic on materials. This week we went exploring around the classroom and playground looking for objects made out of a variety of materials. We were good at recognising the different materials and noticing when an item was made out of more than one material. Maybe you could have a look together at home to see what materials you can find around your home.
