LKS2 Newsletter 7/2/20

And so we end another brilliant week in LKS2, with lots of learning from fabulous fronted adverbials to fantastic pharaohs!

In English this week, we have learned that a fronted adverbial is a phrase or word at the beginning of a sentence to describe the action that is happening. The children have done some brilliant writing, including an Ancient Egyptian diary. They also acted out various sentences to help them come up with some extra interesting fronted adverbials.

In Science, we have continued our investigations into light. We experimented with shadows and how we can make shadows change shape and size. We noticed that when you move a light source further away from an object, its shadow gets smaller. We used torches, metre sticks, multilink cubes and pencils to record our findings.

Did you know this week has been Children’s Mental Health week? In Cookridge we know the importance of talking about our mental health and taking care of each other. In LKS2, we spent the afternoon talking about being brave, and discussing how there are many different forms of bravery. We thought about what helps us to ‘find our brave’, and how we can help other people to find theirs!

In Miss Boyd’s maths this week, the children have been continuing their learning on converting measurements. We have delved deeper into converting between different units of length such as metres and kilometres. We have also looked at capacity and mass. The children have expanded their reasoning skills by problem solving in groups.

Fantastic work from all three classes this week – let’s keep it up and end this half term with a bang!
