Year 3- Maths – Classes 5 & 7
In year 3, we have finally finished a carousel of activities based on written multiplication and division.
We have carried out scaling investigations, comparing an objects length, width and height as well as using our scientific enquiry skills conducting a fair test to find out if Miss Briscoe could roll a rugby ball 4 times further than her maths group….it was a close contest but the children really went the distance!
We have taken ownership of our own learning, by teaching each other how to solve problems using short multiplication skills and bus stop division. Working collaboratively, we have improved our skills on missing digit problems, money problems and multi-step problems. We even managed to fit in some holiday planning; working out budgets, flight costs and reading timetables.
However, we think our proudest moment was when we composed reasoning answers in groups, then used the Ipads and interactive board to feedback to the rest of the class. We showed our maturity by providing suggestions to peers and improvements for our own explanations to help with the structure and organisation of our reasoning answers.
