LKS2 – Year 3 – Mental Health Day
On Tuesday, the Y3s spent the whole day learning about their mental health, and how to look after their minds. They engaged in a fantastic discussion about failure, focused around the question: ‘Is failure always a bad thing?’ We also played a game called the magic skittles game, where the red skittle would give us powers so we would never fail! We made a choice whether to eat a red skittle or a normal skittle, and had to provide a good argument for our choice.
Then we looked at negative and positive feelings, and talked about how we experience a range of emotions throughout the day. We came up with strategies to help us deal with emotions like anger, and had a go at changing some negative thoughts into positive thoughts.
In the afternoon, we revisited the Learning Pit! We decided that the Learning Pit is a good thing – we might feel frustrated and upset when we are in it, but if we are resilient we will experience some fantastic learning! We took part in 3 challenges, which required teamwork and resilience, and recorded how we were feeling at each step of the way.
Overall, it was a lovely day and the Y3s really impressed the teachers with their maturity and concentration.
