Wow! What an amazing week we have had in Lower Key Stage Two!

Year 3/4  thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day and spent most of the day completing activities based around the book ‘The Green Ship’. Pupils acted out their own versions, used lego to create models and then wrote their own stories involving cars, trains and planes! They also took part in the potato challenge to create a book character and they all looked wonderful in their costumes – thank you for the time and effort that went into them!

This week we started our new Science topic: Sound. The children used a tuning fork to investigate how sound is made, and we learned that vibrations cause sound waves which travel to our ear, and that is how we hear things. Then we made string telephones and found that we could hear each other through the cups because the vibrations could travel along the string. It even worked around the corner!

During our cross curricular day, pupils compared and discussed a wide variety of topics such as Ancient Egyptian housing, clothes and beliefs. The pupils had a great time cooking up a treat of Ancient Egyptian recipes including hummus, date balls and flat breads, comparing the food to the modern day versions we know today.

Year 3 have moved onto fractions in maths, Miss Evans’ group have focused on recognising unit and non unit fractions, while Miss Briscoe’s Maths groups have been building on their equivalent fraction knowledge, through practical tasks that involve creating, sorting and solving equivalent fraction problems.
