LKS2 – Newsletter – 02/10/2020

Happy Friday!

This week, Year 3 pupils have begun learning about multiples of 50 and 100. They have completed various challenges involving number sequences, true or false statements, venn diagrams and word problems.

This week in Miss Brophy’s Maths group we have worked really hard to understand and describe 2 digit numbers. We have used objects to help us do this and identified how many tens and ones are in a 2 digit number.

Miss Evans’ maths group have been working hard on their rounding skills, and today they’ve deepened their understanding even further. They developed their verbal reasoning skills by applying their knowledge of rounding to several different problems. There was some excellent use of mathematical language, for example discussing questions such as ‘what is the same and what is different about rounding to the nearest 10 and rounding to the nearest 100?’, and ‘Why do numbers 0 – 49 always round down to the nearest 100?’. Well done, Year 4!

Miss Boyd’s maths group have been impressing her immensely with their amazing knowledge of roman numerals this week. After just one week, we have been able to learn how to write up to 100 and more in roman numerals! Keep up the great work!

In English this week, we have delved into our spelling, punctuation and grammar work. We have focused mostly on spelling patterns and rules, word classes and adding suffixes onto root words.

As we are not able to have a whole school Learnatic rewards assembly, we decided to have a LKS2 phase assembly over Zoom. Children were able to receive their Learnatic certificates. We also said a huge well done and thank you to every child for being so incredible over the past 4 weeks since being back at Cookridge and adjusting back into school life so well. Great work LKS2!

We hope you enjoy your weekend,

Stay safe!
