LKS2 Newsletter 09/10/20

Hello and happy Friday to our LKS2 children and families!

We’ve had another week packed full of learning and fun…

In Miss Evans’ maths group, the children have been learning their Roman Numerals to 100. As well as learning a very catchy song (maybe you could sing this at home…!) we played a fun matching game. The children competed in groups to match the numbers 1-20 with their corresponding Roman Numerals. The fastest group completed it in under 5 minutes!

In Science this week, all three classes have made their very own fossils! Last week, we learned how a fossil is made over thousands of years. Yesterday, we recreated the fossilisation process. First, we pushed a toy insect into some salt dough. Then we poured in plaster mixture, to recreate the minerals and sediment filling the mould and creating a fossil. At every step, the children were fantastic at using their scientific vocabulary to describe what was happening.

We have had two brilliant Forest Schools sessions this week. On Tuesday, the children began learning how to whittle a stick into a sharp point – an essential skill needed in the Stone Age. Today, the children put this skill to the test when they created their own Stone Age weapons. The staff were blown away by their problem solving, levels of resilience and determination throughout the morning. You can see for yourself from the pictures, they loved every minute of it!

Learnatics

Assemblies in LKS2 have been a little different recently, as they have been taking place over Zoom! This week’s Learnatics received their certificates during assembly this morning. They have all been superstars this week, and we’re very proud of how hard they are working, and their thoughtful and kind attitudes.

Reminders

It’s PE day on Monday, so please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit!

As always, we expect children to be reading at least 3 times a week at home. Once they have finished their reading book, please return it to school so we can send home a new one.
