KS1 – Newsletter – 12.3.21
We’re back! It has been fantastic to have all the children back in this week.
We have spent a lot of the week focusing on the children’s wellbeing. We have given them lots of opportunities to reconnect with their friends and talk about the things they have liked and not liked about lockdown. We have also been exploring with them the things that they are looking forward to when the bans are lifted.
In Maths we have been revisiting things that the children have been doing in their home learning and focusing on their fluency. In Year 1 they have been practising their counting and numberbond skills and Year 2 have been looking at the four operations.
In Science, we have begun looking at the four seasons, linked in with weather. We have been discussing what we already know about each of these seasons and thinking about what we’d like to learn. We had some really interesting questions like ‘Why do clouds change and sometimes rain and sometimes snow?’ and ‘Why do we only see bees in the Summer?’
In Computing, the children have been using Beebots. They were learning/ practising the basic skills of moving the Beebot forwards, backwards, left and right. They have learnt to always cancel a set of instructions before inputting a new set and being able to move the Beebot to a given place on the chart.
In Geography, we have been learning about the British Isles. We have been labelling England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and the waters around the British isles.
As you will be aware, having good ventilation and being spread apart from others is key during this pandemic. Part of the way we are helping with that is ensuring that we are having outdoor lessons and that playtimes are separated. Please make sure that your child has suitable outdoor clothing, including warm PE kit as they will be outdoors as much as possible. We would also like them to bring in a spare change of shoes, or wellies, so that when they are playing outside on the trim trail or on the field, they can change their shoes before coming back into school.
Thank you to everyone who has brought back the home learning packs and reading books that have been at home during lockdown. Please can we ask you all to have a good look at home for books that have been borrowed and return them asap so that we can send your child home with a new reading books.
