LKS2 – Newsletter – 7.5.21

Despite the miserable weather, LKS2 have had a brilliant week!

In English, we had a stand alone lesson on Monday where we learnt about irregular and regular verbs and tenses. For the rest of the week, we have been working towards and have created a newspaper article all about the first Roman invasion of Britain that happened in 55BCE. We have all worked super hard and have created some lovely articles.

In Miss Boyd’s maths, we have been learning multiplication using the formal written method of short multiplication. We began with 2 digit numbers by 1 digit number, then progressed onto 3 digit numbers and some of us even moved onto 4 digit numbers! We challenged ourselves by working with money and completing multi-step word problems including addition.

Miss Evans’ class have been working on short multiplication this week. On Tuesday, they used counters and place value charts to show equal groups, for example to show 432 x 3 they would make 432 three times. Then they added together the counters to find the answer. They also started looking at exchanging if there was more than 9 counters in one place value column.

In computing, we put into practice our developing understanding of animation by using the software 2Animate. After recapping how the process works, we then watched a ‘Spring Flowers’ animation on the program and identified what was good about the sequence and what could be improved. Then, we designed our own short animations on 2Animate, including both prerecorded audio from the software and our own recorded sound effects.

In science, we learned the three main types of teeth (incisor, molar and canine) and their functions. Then we created our own human mouth by standing in two rows, showing where each type of tooth is. Next, we learned about why it is important to look after our teeth, and discussed ways to do this, for example avoiding sugary foods and brushing twice a day! Finally, we set up an experiment to investigate what kind of liquid has the most affect on teeth. We wrote our predictions in our books and also discussed how to keep our test fair. We measured out 4 different liquids and poured them into separate containers. Then we put an egg in each container, and over the next week we will observe what happens to the shell!

A massive well done to our learnatics this week, you are all ACE!!
