LKS2 – Newsletter – 09.07.21

LKS2 have had a great week this week.

It has been lovely to see lots of children supporting England by wearing red and white today.

In music on Monday, we created our own way of performing ‘Three Lions’ firstly using just our body parts and then using an instrument called a boomwhacker in celebration of England’s success in the Euros.

In art, we created our own sculptures.

This week in maths, the Year 4s have been learning about shape. They have learnt about the properties of different quadrilaterals and the properties of triangles. On Tuesday, they went on a shape hunt in the classroom, finding lots of different objects that were in the shape of a triangle or a quadrilateral! Today we explored scalene, isosceles and equilateral triangles by making them with different lengths of string.

In maths, children explored the playground to measure different objects using either a 30 centimetre or metre ruler for smaller objects like sticks and leaves and a trundle wheel for larger measurements such as the length of the playground. Children then converted their measurements between centimetres and metres or vice versa, before finally ranking the objects in order of length.

In science this week, LKS2 continued their learning on plants. We learned that dissection means to cut something open and observe its internal parts, and we used dissection to observe the xylem in a piece of celery. The xylem is a long tube, and it transports water from the roots all around the plant. We used scientific language and our knowledge of plants to describe what we observed and what this told us about plants.

A huge well done to our learnatics this week –

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

  • Children who are going to the big swing on Monday need to come in suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Friday will be forest schools so please send your children in wearing suitable clothing and possibly a second, indoor pair of shoes depending on the weather.
