EYFS Newsletter – 29/04/2022

We have made it through another full and fun-packed week in Reception! 

Our Dinosaurs topic has continued to inspire and entertain the class, with lots of fun activities related to the big lizards. We have been making dino fossils and building dino habitats as well as closely watching our pet dinosaur egg that has been hatching throughout the week. Late  on Thursday we welcomed a small green dinosaur into Reception. The task is now on to name our new friend and prepare it somewhere to live and something to eat!

Our phonics work this week has seen the children revisiting phase three trigraphs (three letters that together make one sound) and applying this in reading and writing activities. Sentence work is really coming on, so thank you to those doing further reading and writing at home! The focus story for this week was Tyrannosaurus Drip by Julia Donaldson with groups of children tasked with making story predictions as the story was read aloud.

In Maths we have concentrated again on numbers between ten and twenty, rehearsing counting skills and finding different ways to represent these numbers. 

Thursday was our fortnightly Forest Schools sessions which was greatly enjoyed by all. Groups worked together to make  the best dinosaur nests (having agreed on key features in advance). With good teamwork skills we managed some successful nests for any incoming dino eggs that may arrive. We also studied skulls of dinosaurs and other animals to help understand their diets. The children were excellent at recognizng what creatures may be carnivores or herbivores.

Next week it is a Bank Holiday on Monday, so school opens again on Tuesday 3rd May and it is R eception’s P.E. session so can children please come in kit, ready to go.
