LKS2 Newsletter 11.11.22

We have had a super busy week in LKS2 this week and I’m sure we are all ready for a rest!

It was lovely to see and speak to so many parents on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the children’s progress. As discussed, your child has brought home a spelling sheet for homework but these are also available on the Spelling Shed app/website. Please make sure your child accesses these and continues to read 2-3 times a week.

In English we have continued to read ‘I was There – Boudica’s Army’ and have been writing a formal letter of complaint to the Roman Governor about the brutality they have shown towards the Iron Age Villagers. We received a reply back from him and we were not impressed, so we have decided that we have no option but to write to Boudica herself to help us see off the rotten Romans! While writing we have been focussing on prefixes and suffixes and exploring some ambitious vocabulary.

In maths this week, Year 4 have been looking at answering word problems using addition and subtraction. We used what we have been practising in barvember to help us with this. By drawing bar models, we were able to visualise the problems and answer them using column addition and subtraction!

Mrs Greaves maths group have been learning how to add 3 digit numbers using the column method. First we used place value counters to make the number so we could see how they fit within the hundreds, tens and ones columns, then we moved to writing these in our book and drawing bar models

In history we learned about The Amesbury Archer and drew and labelled pictures of the important artefacts that were found alongside him.

In Geography we have been looking at different counties and using atlases, iPads and books to identify various human and physical features.

During our Forest School session we learned some fantastic new skills to help us make bow and arrows. The children showed some amazing problem solving skills and resiliance.

This week in PSHE, the Y4 children discussed rights and responsibilities, with a focus on Children’s Rights. We watched a video all about the convention on the rights of the child, and discussed each right and why it is important. Then the children had a conversation about which rights they felt were the most important and put the rights in order of importance. Year 3 were discussing how to stay safe in and around the home.

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend!
