LKS2 Newsletter 3/2/2023

Happy Friday! We’ve had another brilliant week in LKS2…

In Miss Evans’ maths group, the children applied their division skills to help Miss Evans organise a sports day! For each different race, they had to calculate how far apart each child should stand by dividing the length of the playground by the number of children. They showed fantastic measuring skills as well as putting their bus stop method to the test!

In Science this week, we learned about muscles, and how they work by contracting and relaxing in pairs. After reading a text about muscles, we made a model of an arm using a split pin, cardboard and elastic bands to represent the biceps and triceps. We could move it around and observe how the muscles worked together.

In English this week we have been planning our historical narrative about Caesar’s assassination! To help us, we’ve done lots of role play around what happened on Caesar’s last day. On Tuesday, we acted out all the conversations Caesar had and wrote down the speech in speech bubbles. On Thursday we acted out the actual assassination, with ‘Caesar’ coming into the classroom without knowing which senators were going to betray him!

Yesterday, some children from Y4 visited Ralph Thoresby High School. They went with other children from the local area to take part in lots of times table challenges. They really did Cookridge proud, well done!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a visit from the Great British badminton player Jenny Wallwork came to school! She ran a fun fitness circuit with the children and then delivered an inspirational assembly. The children had a fantastic time and really enjoyed themselves.

Reminders

PE on Tuesday will be outside – please make sure your child has a PE jumper and, if possible, tracksuit bottoms/leggings.

Next Friday (10th February) is ‘Dress to Express’ day. Your child can come in clothes which express their individuality – this may be a football kit, pyjamas, a certain colour…whatever they like!
