LKS2 – World Book Day
We have a wonderful day celebrating all things books!
The day started with an assembly ran by our reading reps – a big shout out to the children who represented LKS2. Some children competed with teachers to win a prize – splatting the other team captain (poor Miss Barnicoat!) in the face with a cream pie!
Then, we went back to classes and have focused our day all around the Julia Donaldson book, “The Highway Rat.” We have created our very own sequel, which has included making puppets, designing our front cover, role play, drafting, and publishing our very own stories! As well as this, we have been lucky enough to take part in some DT (food technology) – making cakes, as if taken from the cake shop in the book!
This afternoon, we spent some time in the hall, choosing a new book to take home. We tried to choose a book which we wouldn’t normally – whether this be adventure, non-fiction, poetry or a wide range of other genres and styles. Hopefully your child has brought this home and it is something you can enjoy together.
To end the day, we were lucky enough to have a mystery reader in each classroom… Thank you so much to the parent’s who volunteered and came into school.
Whether you chose to dress up or not, we would like to thank all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm today. It’s great to see such a love for reading develop and being shared between everyone.
