EYFS – Newsletter – 03/03/23
We have had another exciting week in Reception.
In Phonics we have been looking at the graphemes ‘ow’, ‘oi’ and ‘ear’. The children worked hard to fill in the missing digraphs and trigraphs to make labels for different pictures. Some children then took up the challenge to use these words in sentences. Outside, we played lots of different animal noises and everyone had a go at using the ‘ear’ sound to explain what they heard using the sentence starter ‘I hear a…’ and write this in chalk.
In maths we have been looking at number bonds for the numbers 9 and 10. We used tens frames and part whole models to break numbers into two parts and then, both verbally and using written number sentences, state the different number bonds we found.
As part of our ‘Location, location, location’ topic this week the children chose to look at the Statue of Liberty. We used Google maps and street view to explore the landmark and look at where it was and then we had a go at drawing it. The children did an amazing job following the instructions on the tutorial and create some brilliant pictures.
We also talked about our local area and listed different buildings we could find nearby. The children then had a go at creating large models of buildings in Cookridge such as the fire station, church and swimming pool!
Elsewhere in the classroom the children have created moving puppets of characters from the story ‘Funny Bones’, coloured, cut out and designed our own play parks and acted out roles in our class shop.
The next week it will be PE on Tuesday.
