EYFS – Newsletter – 28/04/23

Reception have had another fun filled week!

In Phonics we have continued practising using our phase 3 phonics to read and write sentences. Once again the children have worked incredibly hard and are making real progress with the confidence writing sentences independently! Outside, the focus has been on tricky words. The children were challenged to read several different sentences, select the matching picture, and then identify and write down the tricky words used in that phrase.

In Maths this week, we have looked further into the numbers between 11 and 20 and the numerals used to represent them. The children rolled dice to race on number tracks, created their own number lines using numicon and tens frames, and played (several!) games of bingo to practise recognising numerals quickly.

Our chicks have been growing this week and we have been enjoying looking after them. We have updated our chick diaries, made chicks using paper shapes and used ten frames to count chickens and eggs.

This week we read the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Everyone enjoyed listening to the story and joining in acting it out. Many children also did a super job retelling the story using masks!

This week Recepetion have had a secret task, to create a leaving card for Miss Beaston. Everyone has loved having her as part of our class for the last few months. We will miss her but wish her lots of luck as she takes on the challenge of leading her own class in a new school in September.

Elsewhere in the classroom we have sorted picture cards by the sounds they include, practised moving in different ways to complete an obstacle course, built and created badges and as part of a police station roleplay and sorted foods by how healthy they are.

Dates for the Diary:

Friday 5th May – To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, children are invited to dress in red, white and blue. There will also be a competition to design a crown for the new King and to write a story about ‘When the King lost his Crown’. These are to be completed at home and brought in to school before Friday 5th May (as with the Easter Egg competition).
