LKS2 – Newsletter 22.09.23

What a brilliant week it has been in LKS2!

This week in English, children have worked hard to draft, edit and publish their information leaflet about Leeds. It has been fantastic to see them gather their own research and create a piece of writing that can inform the reader about our city. They have focused on different aspects such as museums, music and buildings.

We had such a great day with poet Tony Peek yesterday. The day began with a whole school assembly initially led by some of our amazing Reading Reps who introduced Tony to the children. Throughout the day, he had every single pupil who worked with him completely captivated. His engaging, fun delivery had everyone engaged, inspired by poetry and roaring with laughter. Tony then worked throughout school delivering workshops across Key Stage 2. The children had such a wonderful experience of hearing other poems, playing word games and writing their own poetry- they have been left with a love for poetry and inspired to create more! He has even inspired staff members who spent their lunchtime writing and sharing poems in the staffroom! Thank you Tony for helping us raise the profile of poetry and engaging our pupils in the wonderful world of poems!

On  Thursday, we had a wonderful outside in the warm autumnal sunshine practicing our knot tying skills. To begin with, we played the game ‘Fire and Tarps’ where we developed our listening and communication skills to avoid being eliminated by Mr Gamble. Afterwards, we revisited our knot skills in order to continue to learn how to put a shelter up correctly using rope and tarp. We practiced tying a Prusik knot and then learnt about the much harder Bowline knot. Once we were more confident and accurate in making them, we practiced further by tying rope to sticks and trees in preparation for putting a shelter up next time.
