UKS2 – Classes 8, 9 & 10 – Science

To begin our new topic, Properties of Everyday Materials, we took part in an investigation to discover the properties of various materials. First, we explored a bag of items on our table that were filled with different items. We discussed how each of these items felt, using words from a word mat on our tables. Then, we planned out how we might execute our enquiry to find the properties of each material in groups using the equipment that was on our tables, coming up with an overarching question and a method. Then, we tested each material on their hardness using a nail to scratch, solubility in water, magnetism using magnets and transparency using a torch.
