KS1 – Forest School – Big Garden Birdwatch
This weekend it is the RSPB’s 25th Big Garden Birdwatch and it’s the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. In preparation for this, KS1 pupils have been learning all about birds today in their Forest School sessions. Pupils have led their own learning by choosing to make bird cakes using lard, seeds, raisins and dried fruit with string attached to hang them from trees to feed our feathered friends an energy boosting snack. Pupils also made birds using cardboard, scissors, glue and pencil crayons. After carefully drawing round a bowl to give them a circular shape, children cut out their bird, coloured it in, created a beak using card and tail feathers using straws. Finally, children added eyes to their birds before creating their own stories and games involving them. The final activity involved learning about some common garden birds and their coloured markings. Pupils could choose one and do some mindful colouring either matching the colours of the bird to their picture or they could be creative and add their own colour scheme – we had some very bright and wonderfully coloured birds!
