Key stage 1 – Newsletter – 27.9.19
It’s been a fantastic week of Science in Key Stage 1.
Year 1 have been focusing on Science during their English this week. They were wondering what the clouds are made of and after cloud gazing they have been writing what pictures they could see in the clouds. They did an exciting experiment using shaving foam and food colouring to create their own rain in the classroom and wrote up what they had done.
Year 2 have been experimenting with floating and sinking – wondering which chocolate bars float and which ones sink! They made their own predictions, thought about how to make it a fair test and then used their results to verbally give a conclusion.
In maths, year 1, have continued to practise their counting. They have been learning to represent numbers in a variety of ways, using base ten, numicon, ten frames and writing the number in words.
Year 2 have been finishing off place value, learning how to partition numbers. Some groups have begun to compare numbers, playing games such as Top Trumps to identify the greater number.
E safety is a big priority for us in school and we have been focusing on this in our ICT lessons. After focusing on what information we can share on line and what we must not, we all chose a nickname that we could use on line and began to make posters to explain to others about E safety.
