Bows and Arrows – LKS2 – Forest School

As part of our work in the Iron Age, we have looked at the improvement of tools. Over the past few weeks, we have worked on using whittling knives safely and effectively and began honing our skills to create sharp, even points. Today, children also learnt how to use secateurs and loppers to cut larger pieces of wood before turning these into bows and arrows using whittling knives. There was lots of resilience, problem solving and teamwork on show in the session as children quickly learnt making a good, effective bow and arrow was a lot harder than it sounded! Once completed, we used our bows and arrows to hunt ‘game’ around our school Forest School area where we practiced and refined our techniques.
