Class 6 – History – Bronze Age

We had a Bronze Age bonanza in Class 6 this morning with two activities linked to advances in technology and skills in the Bronze Age. First, pupils compared jewellery from the Stone Age and Bronze Age, discussing and highlighting differences and similarities. After, pupils and designed their own piece of jewellery inspired by the Bronze Age. Afterwards, pupils got to learn about the improved boats they built, which allowed people in Britain to trade with Europe. With our science caps on, we discussed what makes an object float or sink –  was it their size or weight? We tested different fruits and found there was no pattern based on this. Therefore, we discovered it was to do with density (how much ‘stuff’) was inside the object. Children then got into teams to design and create their own boats, which had to carry goods across the sea in the Bronze Age. We tested their capacity and ability to float by loading the boats with goods (1p) coins. The winning boat, made solely from 1 metre of foil, held an incredible 136 1p coins before sinking.
