EYFS – Forest School – 23/01/25

Our forest school session this fortnight was a lot of fun. Though the rain did curtail some of our outdoor time (at the children’s request!) we still got out to explore in the garden. Our focus this time was birds, as this weekend is The Big Garden Birdwatch so we have enjoyed a number of activities around birds today. Sadly, the noise and activity in the garden meant that although we stopped to listen the birdsong we didn’t get to see many local birds up close.  Luckily we do have some resident birds in our beautiful chickens, so the children were given the opportunity to visit the chickens and take a closer look at our feathered friends, as well as collect any eggs that had been laid that morning.

Lots of children also took the challenge to complete bird pictures using come paint mixed from the charcoal in our own firepit! Lots of fun was had climbing the treehouse and jumping off and attempting to fly like a bird.

Driven back indoors, we took to some avian activities of a warmer and drier kind! The children loved using Numicom and Duplo to build model bird representations, and lots chose to hone their colouring skills with some bird drawings. Lots of creative flair was displayed as many children chose to craft a bird from a paper plate, adding feathers and other features to make their own unique bird to take home.

All in all, a lot of fun was had and we look forward to the next (hopefully drier!) forest schools session.
