It’s been another full and fun-packed week in Reception!
Phonics this week has seen the children wowing us all with their ever improving reading and writing skills. One of our phonics activities has been inspired by the Supertato story ‘Veggies Assemble!’ by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra. After reading the story we discussed the variety of speech verbs used by the authors and what they each mean. The children were then tasked with acting out different phrases in different voices (stammering, shrieking, etc.) to develop a better understanding of this unfamiliar vocabulary.
In Maths, the children have been exploring numbers and in particular investigating the make up of numbers between 10 and 20. All the children are becoming more confident in talking about numbers and finding different ways to show their thinking.
Thursday was our regular Forest School day, which saw Mr Gamble join us for another superhero inspired session. Children helped to rescue stranded civilians (teddies) from a lava field through ingenious teamwork; they constructed superhero bases from den-making equipment; used natural materials found in the garden to make superhero masks; and cooked up another beautiful batch of superhero stew on the fire! The sun shone and everyone had a great time.
Sadly, our visit by local firefighters (planned for Tuesday of this week) had to be cancelled at the last minute as the crew were called away to attend an emergency. We hope to re-arrange with another date before the end of term, if possible.
Have a fantastic weekend!
