EYFS – Newsletter – 04.10.19

It’s been another full and fun packed week in Reception! 

At the start of the week we got the children together in their new ‘Family’ groups. Each group will be working with a key adult for targeted Phonics and Maths sessions each morning and Reading sessions each afternoon. The first task of each group was to come up with a name for their group and decide on some rules. You may have already heard, but the children are now either a Jet, a Butterfly, a Buzz Lightyear or a Coconut! 

In our first phonics sessions we have been learning about the letter ‘S’. Children were fantastic at finding words that begin with the ‘s’ sound and hunting for ‘s’ items in the classroom. The children loved having a go at forming the letter ‘s’ in many different ways: in paints, chalks, and even on the smartboard!

P.E. was a great success too this week, with children having a go at different ways of balancing. The kids are also becoming much more confident at independent dressing, so thank you for practicing this at home. 

Rukaya wowed Mrs Wood this week with her excellent balance.

The children loved getting together to build a huge den in the classroom as part of our Forrest School afternoons. Atrocious weather unfortunately kept us indoors again this week, but we have developed our building skills and had a lot of fun creating different rooms in the ‘Super Den’™

We had great fun creating a SUPER-DEN in Reception this week.

We love getting outdoors in Reception, and as wet weather is predicted again next week, it may be a good idea to send some wellies for use in our outdoor areas as we sadly don’t have enough for each child.  As with any uniform, coats and shoes, it really makes things easier if wellies can be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Thank you. 

REMINDER: Reception are holding Parent Consultations on Tuesday 22nd October from 3:15 p.m. Appointments will soon be available to book on the Smart School App. Appointments will be bookable up until 6:50 p.m. If you are unable to attend this date, don’t worry, we can arrange a more convenient time one day after school.
