What a fantastic first week we’ve had in Reception! We have been so impressed by how brilliantly all the children have come into school with a can-do attitude and coped remarkably well with so many new experiences.
We spent the mornings this week getting to know each other and exploring all the areas of our Reception class. The children have been given guided time in each area, both inside and out, to help them understand how to use the resources and (importantly!) how to tidy them away afterwards! All the staff have been blown away by how polite, friendly and helpful the children are already. It’s been remarkably calm for an area populated by so many 4 and 5 year olds!
We also took opportunities to go off on walks around school to explore the library, dinner hall, playgrounds and school garden (featuring all our lovely school animals). From Thursday, the children have stayed to eat lunch and really impressed everyone with their independence and table manners, each helping to serve their own food and help to clear it away too!
Thank you for all your co-operation during this transition time as it really benefits the children in feeling happy and settled into their new school life. Monday and Tuesday next week are half-days again, with the children staying for lunch (pick up at 1pm) and then from Wednesday 13th September the children will be staying for the full school day (pick up at 3:20pm).
There has been much laughter and fun this week, and if the children are anything like the adults then they’ll be ready for a good rest this weekend! Please enjoy having a look through some photos from the past days (apologies if your child is not featured).
NEXT WEEK: Thursday 14th is our first Forest Schools session of the year and we shall be spending the majority of the day outdoors, whatever the weather. Please send children to school in weather-appropriate clothing and footwear that can get mucky.
