What a successful week we have had in reception!
The main event this week has been our Christmas play on Wednesday. We hope you enjoyed the play as much as we did! The children were all amazing and should be very proud of themselves for their performance!
In Phonics we have introduced of the final phonemes learned as part of phase 2 which as the digraph ‘ss’ (kiss) and ‘s’ when making a /z/ sound (pigs). We’ve also spent time rehearsing the ‘tricky words’ in active ways, such as hopping and bowling games. These high frequency words are not decidable using phonics blending but help children become more fluent and confident in reading.
In maths this week we have been talking about the number zero. We looked at different ways to represent zero, for example stating that there were zero cubes on the ten frame. Outside the children played hide and seek and, when they were the seeker, they narrated their search process using numbers, “I can see zero children under the table.”
Elsewhere in the classroom the children have been busy writing letters to Santa, making Christmas decorations, building towers, exploring google earth and dancing with nets with Mrs Durrant!
