Merry Christmas!
Earlier this week, Twinkle (our visiting elf) took away all the toy robots that had been made by the children this half-term and delivered them to Santa. Soon afterwards, a special letter arrived from Santa himself to thank the children for their brilliant woodwork, and telling them that they were able to keep them and take them home after all – he even rewarded their kindness with a chocolate gold coin!
A lot of our week has been Christmassy preparations in advance of our celebration event on Thursday. The children had lots of fun helping to make gingerbread biscuits ready for our celebration (nearly as much fun as they had decorating and eating them on the day itself!). There has been lots of Christmas crafts, with children making decorations and colouring some lovely colourful festive pictures.
Phonics sessions this week have been lots of fun, with Christmas-themed activities allowing us all to recap the learning we’ve done this year so far and giving the children chance to show off their amazing reading and writing skills. It is fantastic to see how far we’ve all come since starting school in September and we look forward to continuing our phonics journey in the new year!
Our Maths sessions this week have concentrated on the skill of counting accurately. We’ve discussed strategies to ensure careful counting and the children have engaged in fun activities to put these skills into practise.
On Friday we have all said a sad goodbye to our student teacher Miss Walsh who has been working in Reception all term and done so much to make our time in school so fun and enjoyable. As she moves onto pastures new for her next school placement we all wish her all the best and thank her for everything she has done this year.
All the staff in Reception would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for all the kind and super-thoughtful gifts we have received this week. We have all been so very happy to receive such gifts and are all looking forward to a relaxing break. It has been a pleasure spending this term with all the Reception children and we are looking forward to lots of new adventures next term. We hope you will all have a wonderful and precious Christmas holidays with your loved ones. We shall look forward to seeing you all in 2025!
