EYFS Newsletter – 24.11.23
What a fun week it’s been in Reception! The children are really enjoying our topic of Toytown and getting stuck into the different toy-related activities.
This week we have read the toy related stories ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes and ‘Paper Dolls’ by Julia Donaldson. We talked a lot about emotions and asked the children to think about how the boy in ‘Dogger’ may be feeling at different points of the story and they have shown great empathy and responded with some fabulous vocabulary. Many children also enjoyed the opportunity to cut out and decorate their own string of paper dolls. This really tested some of our cutting skills, but the children persevered and were very proud of their finished dolls.
Maths this week has seen us talking about the concepts of ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ when discussing numbers. We have practised applying this knowledge in fun ways, with balls and with the song ‘Five Little Buns in Baker’s Shop’. Our Phonics sessions have introduced the phonemes ‘r’ (robot) ‘h’ (horse) and ‘b’ (ball) and the children have been rehearsing hearing, reading and writing letters, words and even short phrases!
Christmas has well and truly arrived in Reception this week (yes, we know it’s only November!). Santa’s workshop in our outdoor DT area has been very active with many more children adding their robot designs to the bulk order placed by Saint Nick. Any children who receive these robot toys are sure to be delighted! We have begun rehearsing the songs for our Christmas performance (see below for ticket booking form) and the children had great fun making their own Christmas figures out of plasticine clay with Mrs Ledda on Tuesday.
Our Christmas performance alongside the children in Years 5 and 6 will be now talking place at 2:30pm on Friday the 15th December. Apologies for the confusion around changing this date, but we’re very much looking forward to seeing you there, if you can make it. Due to the limited space, we are only able to offer 2 tickets per child to this performance. The form to book tickets can be found on the school website here: https://www.cookridgeprimary.co.uk/eyfs-and-uks2-christmas-concert-booking-form/
Thank you all for the generous donations to our Christmas Fair too!
We hope you have a great weekend!
