EYFS – World Foods Parent Event
Thank you to all that were able to attend our ‘Foods of the World’ event in Reception class today! It was so lovely to see so many people and to see the children happily sharing their learning.
We started the morning discussing our favourite foods and where in the world they are grown. We then took inspiration from the Tiny Chef and his culinary skills before discussing the importance of hygiene (we washed our hands a LOT!) and of safe handling of our equipment. Then the children split into four kitchens. The purple team went to Asia and prepared a Thai Fruit Salad, using some delicious tropical fruits and finishing it with salt and chopped basil. The green team went to Africa and made Egyptian falafel and hummus from chickpeas and lots of exotic spices. The blue team travelled to Mexico and helped prepare some quesadillas with a filling of cheese and peppers, plus a side of guacamole. Finally the purple team helped to make the Greek dip tzatziki. The children all worked well together and followed instructions brilliantly while practising peeling, chopping, mixing and shaping different elements until all was prepared.
In the afternoon we opened up our classroom to share our creations and enjoy some tasty foods. It was fantastic to see the children taking family members around to talk about the foods they had made and all of our amazing learning about countries all over the world. We hope everyone enjoyed the food and getting to take a look at some of the brilliant work the kids get up to in Reception.
