KS1 – Final Newsletter – 12.7.24

This has been an amazing year in KS1. The children have been outstanding learners and we have loved getting to know them all and seeing them make some fantastic progress. Thank you to all parents and carers who have supported us and your children over the year, partnering with you is invaluable to the children’s learning and successes.

Please have a look at the dates for your diary section, that has some key dates for next year.

This week has been a very different week for them all, as they have had three days doing transition. They have all had time to meet their new teacher and teaching assistant, spend time with their class mates and explore their classroom. Have a look at the transition posts to see what they have been up to!

We have been doing some performance poetry in classes this week. After reading the book ‘Five little men..’ the children created their own little alien puppet and used this in their performance. They all worked in groups to rehearse and then perform their poem to the class. It was a lovely, positive time, where they all have good feedback from their peers about what they enjoyed from their performance.

We had the ‘Now Press Play’ headphones out in Geography. The focus this week was on maps. They followed a story pretending their sister was stolen by a dragon and how they had to use the map and compass to get her back!

In music, Year One have done their final lesson on ‘The Carnival of the animals’. This week their focus was on the swan and fossils. Year Two have been making music kebabs. They’ve made compositions with contrasting sounds like fast, slo, fast or loud, quiet, loud.

Year One have been doing therapeutic drawings in art, allowing their pencil to drift where ever it wants. They then made pictures out of the patterns they had made. Year Two have brought their sketch up books home this week and we hope that you have enjoyed looking through them. They spent time together reviewing and assessing what they have done throughout the year.

In Design Technology, the children have been putting the final touches to their planets and have been reviewing their work. They have looked at what has gone well, what they have found difficult and what they would improve on if they were to do the task again.

We finished off our topic on animals by creating food chains. We looked again at how a food chain starts with a producer and then has  a consumer, prey and predator. We looked at food chains that main occur in the sea, on a farm, in the wild etc… They children created their own food chain of three or four things to show what eats what and where the energy goes.

In PSHE, Year One have been discussing what makes Britain Great! They have looked at amazing buildings, landmarks and scenery, people who have achieved fantastic things and events that have taken place here. They each then thought about why they are proud to be British. Year Two have been thinking about how to let emotions out appropriately. They looked at lots of scenarios and thought about whether they would make them feel sad, nervous, anxious etc.. and what they could do to help them with these emotions. We of course linked this with the fact they will shortly be moving to LKS2.

Have a fantastic Summer everyone!
