KS1 – Newletter – 24.1.20
The children have all been working hard in Key Stage 1 this week.
The Leeds Rhino’s rugby sessions have continued on Wednesday for Year 1 and Thursday for Year 2. The children are loving learning new skills, understanding how to make a target, travel forward whilst passing backwards and how to dodge an opponent. Please ensure your child has the appropriate PE kit to join in.
Year 2 are becoming really good at multiplying now and have been demonstrating this in lots of ways. They have been painting arrays and recording the multiplication and repeated addition sentences. They have also been completing word problems, thinking about how how to solve them correctly and evidence it. Year 1 have been working on addition problems, in the role play area, outside and with a variety of different resources.
In English Year 2 have been completing RIC’s all about space and learning about life on the space station. They have been finding out what words mean by being detectives and finding them in the dictionary. Year 1 have been reading ‘Beegu’ and thinking about how Beegu was feeling. The children all created models out of clay of their creature. They used role play and have been having a go at writing about it using Full stops and Capital letters.
We have been completing investigations in Science working out materials are good insulators. We had cups of hot water and wrapped them up in a variety of materials. We then tested the temperatures every 10 minutes using thermometers and recorded them in a table. We were able to see which cups had retained the most heat and which hadn’t.
In Geography we have been developing our understanding of aerial views. We were focusing on Physical and human features of our environment and sorting them into groups.
The children have had great fun in computing practising using the Beebots. They were continuing following written algorithms and programming the Beebots to travel around the Space mats and find which star or planet it arrives at.
