KS1 – Newsletter – 05.06.23
Welcome back for our final term we hope you had a lovely half term holiday!
This week Year One have been working on brochures for our upcoming Bridlington trip. We have been using persuasive language to advertise Bridlington. We are continuing to work on our phonics knowledge with small games and activities to help us. Year 2 have been focusing on a Jack and the Beanstalk narrative. We are trying to use expanded noun phrases and some children were trying to take the perspective of the giant.
In maths the Year One children have been learning about positional language (left/ right etc). We used objects outside and in the classroom and labelled where things were using this language. Maybe you could practice this at home? Year 2 are learning about lengths and heights. They have been focusing on skills such as ordering, comparing and measuring with cm and m. This is also something you could try at home!
We have introduced animation in computing this week and are beginning to make animations through flip books, purple mash and models this term.
In science we are continuing our knowledge on plants. We became botanists and started an experiment to see what broad beans need to be able to grow. We put some in a cupboard, some near the window, one with water and one without. Lets see which one works!
Our seaside topic also carries into history where we have been comparing the seaside from past and present.
Saturday 10th June- Mrs Koopman’s daughter is holding a fundraising event. Her daughter Ruby was selected to go to South Korea this summer for 3 weeks for a World Scout Jamboree.
She has had to raise £4000 to cover costs, part of this goes to Scouts from countries less fortunate than the UK.
So far, she has sold tea/coffee at her football club, carol singing, craft stalls and have done several events. But still needs £800 to achieve her target.
There will be a range of stalls and activities for children, so please come along if you can.
