Happy Easter everyone! We hope that you all enjoy the holiday, doing fun things together and staying safe. Remember, we have an Easter egg competition happening over the holidays. Design and decorate an egg and send in your photos to the Key Stage 1 e mail and winners will announced after Easter.
We have been finishing our topic on The Great Fire of London this week.
We had great fun during our Forest schools session, taking our houses we had painted up to the fire pit. We laid them out and began a fire in the bakery. We watched as the fire spread really quickly across each of the houses, just like it would have done in London because it was really windy.
Year 1 have been doing a time line of the Great Fire and listening to the story again, acting out what happened, using the ‘stop/ play’ headphones. Year 2 have been writing letters to the King explaining what was happening during the fire and giving reasons why it was important to pull the houses down.
In Maths, year one have been continuing their focus on number families. We have been writing the two addition and two subtraction facts that go together and also writing these beginning with the answer. In Year 2 the focus has continued around the four operations and also bridging through ten. We have been using our understanding of number bonds to answer questions by bridging. Eg 36 + 9 = We know 6 + 4 makes ten. So we added 4 to 36 to make 40 and then added on the final 5 to make 45.
In Science, we have been doing our final carousel looking at the seasons. It has been fun writing and recording weather reports, finding out more about the seasons through our RIC’s and also using pictograms to record how much sunlight is in each season and using these to answer questions.
In Computing, they have been using the Beebots, programming them to move around a map of The Great Fire of London. They have been using the large laminated directional buttons, to lay out where they want the Beebot to go before programming it.
We had a fantastic end to the half term, by having our team relay races up on the field. The children (and staff) all participated really well and earned lots of points for their colour teams. The overall school winning team is still to be announced!
