We would like to thank all parents for your support this week as some of the classes were closed due to strike action. We know this has an affect on you finding child care etc… but appreciate your understanding at this time.
In English, Year One have been enjoying books written by the author Julia Donaldson. They noticed how they rhyme and thought about who the characters were and what the plot of the story was. They created reading dens around the field area and enjoyed acting out the stories and reading the books in their dens. Year two have again been reading ‘The Lighthouse keeper’s lunch’. They completed reading comprehension’s about the book and did some focused handwriting. They then made a story plan and began to write their own narrative of the story.
Year One have been learning about time in their Maths sessions this week. They looked at concepts of before and after and learned about and ordered days of the week and months of the year. Year Two have been consolidating the skills they have learned this year through different fluency tasks and a variety of games and programs on the ipads.
We have continued to compare things that people did in the past at the seaside and things that they do now in our history lessons. They read statements such as ‘Children used metal buckets’ and ‘People got changed in bathing machines’ and decided whether it was in the past or now. They looked at pictures from now and the past and discussed how they could tell. Finally they watched a Punch and Judy puppet show and began to make their own puppets.
For Science this week, looked at how plant grow in hot dry habitats like the desert, Cold habitats like the arctic and warm wet environments like the rain forest. We remembered all the things that plants need to survive and looked at how plants in these environments had adapted to survive there.
In computing, the children have continued with their animation topic. They have really enjoyed creating seaside animations on Purple mash and some have created all funny animations too.
